From the moment they arrived in Wellington, the learners were kept busy with various activities. They first had to settle in their bungalows and make up their beds. After this they were divided into their groups and the activities began.
Before dinner, there was a very interesting and exciting session on scorpions. Firstly there was a lecture on scorpions, their classification, their adaptations and their habits. This was followed by a scorpion hunt! All the learners went out to “scorpion alley” and hunted with vigour! No learners or scorpions were harmed during this activity.
Day two had two great highlights. The first was a hike into the mountains! There were various insightful lectures in the mountains. Information was shared on alien vegetation and why they are so successful in our environment. There was also a short session on Buchu, tortoises and baboons. It was hard work walking through the mountains and the lack of sleep started to count against some of the boys who were struggling to keep their eyes open.
For supper the learners had to make roosterbroodjies. And there was less resistance to sleep as the wind blew strongly through the night.
Vrydagoggend moes ons oppak en skoonmaak. Voor ons ons oë kon uitvee, was ons terug by die skool.
On Tuesday, 20 February various high schools visited our grade 7s to market their schools. The presentations were done in the school hall. Some schools who could not be here, sent information in the form of pamphlets.
The learners enjoyed the energy and originality shown in the presentations. The schools gave the learners important information that they can use when making a choice regarding which high school to attend.

On Wednesday Evening (27 September) the grade 7’s had their 3rd term sokkie. The theme of the sokkie was NEON!
There was a lot of dancing and some very colourful outfits. The social committee did a great job decorating the hall. It was a wonderful opprortunity for the learners to relax and switch off after a long and gruelling term.
The class dance off was won by 7A1, although some very strong competition was delivered by, especially, 7E1 and 7E2.
Below is two photo’s of the evening.
The other grades were also excited to buy from the grade 7’s! They bought whatever they could buy and supported the grade sevens who prepared the whole term for this event.
Satisfied entrepreneurs counted their money and determined their profit. Happy and satisfied faces were everywhere.
There were some fantastic activities on the first day. The kids were taught about sound waves, fauna and flora. There was a night march during which students were made aware of how far sound travels at night and shown some constellations. They were also taught how to find north using the southern cross.

Some of the Gr. 7s made a huge profit and went home with big smiles. We trust that everyone had a joyful time selling and buying.
With great excitement the grade sevens arrived at the Sokkie dressed up with masks. The theme, Masks. The experience was great.
After a good night’s rest (for a few), day two started bright and early at 7am. On the agenda was breakfast, room inspection and a hike in the mountains. All 172 Evers made their way up the mountain with a few pitstops along the way for an outside lesson by uncle Deon and JP, our camp leaders. After making it to the top, the learners found some relief in heading back down the mountain.
The post-lunch challenge was an obstacle course consisting of crawling through a tyre, traversing a set of cross-bars, careful steps across the cargo net and the final mud water challenge completing an hour of fun for our never fading Evers. Little did they know what awaited them.
The snake and reptile show was next. After many nervous shouts and shuffles to the side, even from our teachers, we can safely say that we now know a thing or two about snakes of South Africa. In attempt to exhaust the learners, there were various games of touch rugby, cricket, soccer and even volleyball going on around the campsite.
As the grade 7 camp of 2016 comes to an end, the learners only have a good night’s rest to negotiate, clean up, morning activity and the bus ride back home to enjoy.
Everyone had loads of fun, a few bumps and bruises and learnt a whole lot about their environment.
