EXAM TIPS FOR OUR EVER FAMILIES

Die uitdaging vir ouers tydens eksamentye is vasgevang in ‘n legio van verskillende omstandighede en lei meestal tot frustrasie. Ouers voel soms hulpeloos. Die belangrikste wat u kan verseker, is die regte atmosfeer. Alhoewel dit belangrik is om ‘n kind se akademiese vermoë te versterk, moet ons ook fokus op persoonlike ontwikkeling binne konteks en balans.

Parents, some tips to cope with exam fever:
1. Put exams in perspective. Exams are a mechanism for your child to know what he has understood and what he needs to understand. It is for you to offer him support accordingly. Exams are also a feedback mechanism for the school to know where the child stands.
2. Do not deviate normal fun activities such as sports or music. These will help him/her relax and unwind, helping him/her to focus better.
3. If you can create a relaxed environment, your child will feel relaxed. If your home is like a jail, he/she will feel distressed and look for ways to escape.
4. Manage your expectations.

Never say:
“This is your last chance to do this.”
Do not give ultimatums that your child might misunderstand and take seriously.

“If you don’t work hard for your exams you will end up being a lowly paid worker.”
Do not teach your children that any profession is bad.

“Look at so and so, he studies 12 hours a day and you are barely putting in five.”
Do not compare. No two children are the same.

“Please do not make the same careless mistakes you did in your previous exam.”
Do not perpetuate carelessness.

Evers onthou gedurende eksamentyd:
1. Eksamens is deel van die skoollewe wat jou help om te assesseer wat jy weet en wat jy beter moet leer ken. Maar hulle is nie ‘n barometer van sukses en mislukking in die lewe nie.
2. Die sleutel tot die skryf van jou eksamen stresvry is hersiening. As jy twyfel oor ‘n les, soek onmiddellik hulp van klasmaats, onderwysers en ouers. Moenie dinge tot die laaste oomblik los nie.
3. Moenie studiegewoontes met jou vriende vergelyk nie. Doen wat die beste vir jou werk. As jou vriend musiek luister terwyl hy leer, is dit nie te sê dat die benadering, hoe “cool” dit ookal, vir jou sal werk nie.
4. Slaap is belangrik. Slaap help jou om beide te konsentreer terwyl jy studeer en wanneer jy skryf.
5. Wees aktief – oefen of speel ‘n sport en eet gesond vir ‘n aktiewe en gesonde liggaam.
