Eversdal Triathlon

Written by , on 21 November 2017
Post category: Eversdal General News

Friday 17 November was the long awaited day! It was the Eversdal Triathlon. An opportunity for kids to compete against each other, with each other and with (or in some cases against) their parents.

This year we were very fortunate, as the weather played along and we had ideal conditions. Eversdal Primary School is very fortunate to still have a pool that is in working order. And the swimming leg was thoroughly enjoyed.

The cycling leg was modified a little bit to make it safer and more challenging and this too worked very well. Many athletes struggled with the steep climbs into the parking lots, but no-one expected anything less than a challenge.

The running leg is most athletes favourite part. How many times do you have an opportunity to run through the school with teachers encouraging you to run! Of course the new addition of a mini obstacle course was a great hit!

Next year will be the next evolution of the triathlon with new surprises and challenges.

Thank you to everyone who competed this year! I trust we will see all of you next year again!

KASKARDAG

The level of enjoyment and competitivity was sky high amongst the learners and teachers at the Everrally. In each grade we had a winning class whom will receive their prizes as soon as the announcement is made.

As part of the Funpark, we had blow-up soccer which was a big hit among the learners. Even Mr Arangies and Ms. Rheerder joined in on the action. Some of the other favourites included the Parachute simulator, Space Gyro and Bungee Trampoline.

We are looking forward to our Everally and Funpark 2018, where we will be looking to make it even bigger and better!

EVERSDAL U/10 6-A-SIDE CRICKET TOURNAMENT

Post category: Summer Sport

Monday 6 November will probably be remembered for two reasons:

  1. The incredibly unpleasant wind that blew all day.
  2. The Eversdal 6-a-side.

6 Teams took part in two groups of three. The first stage was a round robin format. From there the top two teams proceeded to the semi finals while the third placed teams from each group played in the play-off for 5th and 6th.

The format meant that each team played at least 3 matches. The finalists played 4 matches. This meant that the teams got a maximum amount of game time.

There was some fantastic cricket on show. Flashing cut shots and glorious cut shots. There were also at least two hat-tricks taken on the day. Bowlers were ably supported by their fielders with some top-quality catching and breath taking ground fielding!

All in all it was a successful day with Kenridge winning the trophy. Thank you to all the parents who came out to support their teams despite the rough wind. Thank you also to the teams who played their part in making the day a success, through their good sportsmanship and great cricket.

We are blessed with some very talented sportsmen in our schools and it’s wonderful to see them showcase their talents like they did today!

After a very hot day in the sun at Monte Vista Primary School, the athletes of Eversdal did extremely well. We came 3rd out of the 10 schools who participated and were called to the rostrum 21 times with 5 – 3rd, 11 – 2nd and 5 – 1st places. We are very proud of our athletes with their performance.

GO EVERS!!!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF EVERT

Meet Evert Dall

Evert is a Grade 6 boy at Eversdal Primary School. He is excited about learning digitally and enjoys the whole new collaborative approach to learning.

Evert wakes up eager to go to school and can’t wait to see his friends to play the all important hand tennis tournament before school starts. As always the social interaction between his peers is just the right fuel for his positive mood.

During break the hand tennis feud continues and it is so much fun to see Mr Arangies jumping rope with the girls as he walks by. Evert can’t wait for the bell to ring, it’s coding time! After break the class goes to the STEM class and do coding. They create their own tennis game and Evert is so pleased to play his own tennis game against his friends.

During Social Sciences they played kahoot to have instant results on revisions about population growth and density. It was fun recalling information and applying understanding of concepts whilst trying to get the results in before the others.

In English they received a Microsoft Form to complete about their preferences on famous literature writers. All the learners who chose the same writer then formed a group. The teacher sent them a task in the Collaboration Space and they could all see how the task evolved as they completed the task together while working on their own tablets.

After a sandwich he does revision on the day’s Mathematics. He struggles with a concept and can’t find help. Evert posts a message on Yammer about his problem. He explains  the problem in the Collaboration Space. Kobus sees his message on Yammer and they chat about the problem. Soon there are about five class mates trying to solve the problem. In Collaboration Space they all write their solution to the problem and the teacher also jumps in with an explanation.

We also had the opportunity to listen to our learners whom performed exceptionally well at the Eisteddfod. What a privilege to have so many talented Evers. We certainly ended off the year on a high note.

Mr Arangies welcomed our guests. On behalf of our learners, Anchen Truter, a Gr 7 learner, thanked guests for their financial contribution, time and ability.
